THREE YEARS STORAGE SUITABILITY TRIALS OF ONION BULBS SELECTED FROM CULTIVAR DORATA DI PARMA VERSUS PARENTS AND COMMERCIAL VARIETIES AND HYBRIDS WERE CARRIED OUT. COLD STORAGE AT 273 K (0 DEG C) WITH 80% RH LASTED 6/7 MONTHS. AT THE END OF STORAGE THE NEW SPECIES (PR81 EARLY AND LATE) SHOWED THE BEST RESULTS ; THERE WERE THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF SOUND BULBS, LESSER WEIGHT LOSSES AND LESSER ROOTAGE AND SPROUTI THE VARIETY YELLOW SS, COSMIC AND VEGA PRODUCED POOR RESULTS IN LONG-TERM STORAGE.
