The purpose of the studies undertaken was to develop a method for determining the needs for cold of various genotypes. The various phenomena involved: the role of the photoperiod in observation and installation of dormancy, characteristics of the effects of low temperatures. For each genotype, a number of factors are involved: capacity to grow on short days, and the number of hours of cold needed for growth, to stop flower initiation, or for the appearance of stolons. Research is also underway to find an early indicator of the growth potential of a strawberry plant.
