Summary

The falling-film absorber and evaporator are applied in the compact pump-free LiBr absorption refrigeration system (without the generator-pump, the evaporator-pump and the absorber-pump) driven by solar energy. This paper aims to present the heat and mass transfer performance of the absorber and the evaporator, and typical experimental data. A new-type falling-film surface, with the cross-flow horizontal tube wrapped by a wire-mesh screen, is designed to enhance the heat and mass transfer performance due to the reduction of the mass transfer resistance and the enlarging of the heat and mass transfer area and the wetting ratio of the film surface. Experimental results showed that the performance of the overall refrigeration system is improved. The improvement of the configurations of the evaporator and the absorber led to an increase in the COP of up to 5.64 %. Through numerical simulation of the falling-film absorption, thickness and velocity of the falling-film are obtained.
