Studies on vortex tubes towards high efficiency temperature separation and LOX separation.

Author(s) : UPENDRA B., PAUL P. J., JACOB S., et al.

Summary

Experimental studies have been conducted on temperature separation and LOX separation both for straight and conical vortex tubes with six convergent nozzles for different dc/D and L/D ratios. Straight vortex tubes are found to perform better for temperature separation though they are not suitable for LOX separation as compared to conical vortex tubes. LOX purity of about 96% with a separation efficiency of about 14% has been achieved with conical vortex tube with L/D of 10. High LOX purity and separation efficiency obtained through experiments on staging of vortex tubes are discussed.
