Summary
The analysis of energy needs of a chemical plant revealed the possibility of using combined-vapour-cycle cogeneration systems either with a Diesel engine, developed into trigeneration systems thanks to the addition of compression or absorption refrigeration units. In terms of commercial attractiveness, the analysis was based on an internal heat recovery method. The results indicated that the composite schemes of reciprocal engines and combined cycles with compression refrigerators, and the gas cycle scheme with absorption refrigeration, both present a recovery period of up to 3 years, which shows that investment in cogeneration could be of great interest for the concerned sector.
