Summary

RESULTS OF A STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER DURING THE STEADY STATE POOL-BOILING OF SUBCOOLED WATER AT ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. THE BOILING CURVES WERE OBTAINED FOR VARIOUS LOCATIONS ON THE HORIZONTAL SURFACE OF A 10 OR 15 MM DISK FACING UPWARDS FOR 0-85 K OF SUBCOOLING, AND FOR THE DISCRETE BUBBLE REGIME UP TO A SECOND BURNOUT POINT. THE EXISTENCE IS CONFIRMED OF A UNIQUE PHENOMENA IN WHICH THE HEAT FLUX STARTS TO INCREASE RAPIDLY BEYOND THE BURNOUT VALUE IN A PARTIAL FILM-BOILING REGIME.
