Summary

A study of heat reclaim application of a CO2 booster system in low temperature environment is presented. The CO2 booster system consists of both medium temperature evaporator and low temperature evaporator with two low temperature compressors and three medium temperature compressors. A heat reclaim heat exchanger is added between the medium temperature compressor discharge and gas cooler inlet to produce hot water. During low
temperature environment operation, transcritical operation is preferred over subcritical operation to achieve better heat reclaim performance and energy saving of the whole system. Compared to using a separate electrical water heater, CO2 booster system can provide both low temperature and medium temperature refrigeration and hot water heating with much less total electrical power input.
