Summary
By making use of a software package for designing twin-screw compressors, the leakage characteristics of a twin-screw compressor with R134a were analysed. Five leakage paths were identified according to the structure of the twin-screw compressor, and mathematical models were established according to the features of the path. Leakage from each of these paths and its effect on compressor efficiency were then calculated under different operating conditions. The results of the calculations provide very helpful guidelines for the design of small twin-screw compressors.
