Summary

Annual electricity consumption for air conditioning of detached houses in Fukuoka is 1/3 times that of Naha and 6 times that of Sapporo. Moreover, in Fukuoka, annual electricity consumption for air conditioning of insulated, airtight houses is 3.5 times greater than consumption in a normal house. The authors conclude that residential buildings in Fukuoka should use natural ventilation and solar shading as well as insulation and airtightness.
