SUCTION MUFFLER DESIGN FOR NOISE REDUCTION ON HIGH-EFFICIENCY RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS.

Summary

THE PAPER DEALS IN PARTICULAR WITH SUCTION MUFFLER DESIGN AND RELATED EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES DEVELOPED TO OPTIMIZE THE NOISE ATTENUATION FACTOR AND PRESSURE LOSSES. THE NEED TO LIMIT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE THE SUCTION PRESSURE DROPS RESULTS IN OVERSIZING OF THE SUCTION PORTS AND DUCTS. HENCE, MORE NOISE IS GENERATEDBY THE SUCTION PROCESS. AN EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUE WAS DEVELOPED TO VERIFY SUCTION MUFFLER DESIGNS WITHOUT TESTING ALL THE CONFIGURATIONS ON THE COMPRESSOR, THUS AVOIDING REPETITION OF TESTS AND THE UNAVOIDABLE INSTABILITY OF THE NOISE SOURCE, IE, THE COMPRESSOR ITSELF.
