AN EXPERIMENTAL TEST DEVICE FOR ACCELERATED ENDURANCE EVALUATION OF COMPRESSOR VALVE ASSEMBLIES.

Author(s) : HARTSHORN K.

Summary

THE PROBLEM WAS TO DESIGN A TEST RIG WHICH NOT ONLY SIMULATED VALVE OPERATING CONDITIONS BUT COULD INCREASE THE OPERATIONAL CYCLES WITH RESPECT TO TIME FOR RAPID EVALUATION OF RESULT THE METHOD CHOSEN FOR TESTING A RANGE OF CONVENTIONAL MULTIPORTED FLEXIBLE PLATE VALVES, MOUNTS THREE VALVES SIMULTANEOUSLY IN AN ASSEMBLY WHERE AIR PRESSURE IS APPLIED AND EXHAUSTED VIA A ROTATING CHOPPER VALVE. TWO SUPPLY AND TWO EXHAUST PORTS BEING OPERATED IN EACH REVOLUTION FOR EACH VALVE ASSEMBLY. INSTRUMENTATION IS SUPPLIED BY PROXIMITY PROBES TO TRACE VALVE PLATE MOVEMENT AND DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE PROBES CHECK THE PRESSURES ACROSS THE VALVES. VALVE BREAKAGES OBTAINED HAVE BEEN COMPARED AGAINST FIELD EXPERIENCE AND APPEAR TO BE THE SAME. THE DEVICE IS BEING USED TO TEST NEW AND EXISTING DESIGNS. D.W.H.
