Summary

The construction of the Yamanashi Maglev Test Line is now at its final stage. In order to build a car running at a super-high speed of 550 km/h, the car body structure is made of 70 millimetre thick aluminium honeycomb, while the truck frame is constructed of light-weight aluminium shapes. For the superconducting magnets, aluminium honeycomb moldings which can withstand 22 kilowatt high voltage are applied to the vacuum vessel in order to increase rigidity and resistance to vibration. For the ground coil, epoxy resin moldings are used for propulsion coils, while sheet molding compound with high strength and mass production capability is used for levitation and guidance coils.
