Summary

THE MAGNETS FOR MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING ARE THE FIRST AND THE MOST IMPORTANT INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS OF SUPERCONDUCTIVITY. IN THIS ARTICLE, THE DESIGN OF THESE MAGNETS AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS, AS WELL AS THE ELECTRICAL AND CRYOGENIC CONNECTED PROBLEMS ARE DESCRIBED. THE RELIABILITY OF THESE MAGNETS IS NOW CERTAIN AND THE ON-GOING RESEARCHES ENABLE ONE TO THINK THAT THEIR COSTS COULD DECREASE IN THE FUTURE AND THEIR PERFORMANCE COULD BE IMPROVED AT THE SAME TIME.
