Summary

On April 30, 2003, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mr Pascal Couchepin, signed a modification to Osubst. Its entry into force took place on July 1, 2003, and application began on January 1, 2004. This new ordinance applies to all substances that can harm the environment, comprises two essential points affecting the refrigeration sector: i) the total and definitive banning of CFCs; and ii) a new group of synthetic fluorinated "substances that are stable in air" are now subjected to regulations, or banned but temporarily authorized until replacement technology can be implemented. Partially fluorinated hydrocarbons (HFCs) are the main substances addressed.
