Technical development of compressors and refrigerating units.

Evolutions technologiques des compresseurs et machines frigorifiques.

Summary

Several compressor technologies are possible for a given application. In the investigation, the authors examine the relative limits of the different compressor types: reciprocating, screw, scroll, vane or rolling piston and centrifugal compressors. A comparison of the theoretical and practical operating fields of the compressors show the need of a better adaptation of the compressor type to each application. The main research avenues for future compressor development are recommended. The new technologies should evolve towards a variable speed operation, without lubrication oil or with lubrication by the refrigerant itself. Acoustic comfort is also an important criterion.
