Summary

A review of measuring techniques with temperature control of the heating surface is presented. Emphasis is laid on the analysis of feedback controlled electrically heated systems which are advantageous. A system of this type, developed by the authors, was used to study the CHF on a small circular heater surface (1 cm2) in natural convection and jet impingement cooling. Fluorinert FC72 was used as test fluid. Some additional data for R113 are presented to show the influence of contamination on the heating surface. In pool boiling experiments the effects of saturation conditions, the orientation of the heater surface and of heater sidewalls on the CHF-point were studied. The jet impingemment experiments were performed with free jets of different temperatures, nozzle exit velocities and heater/nozzle distances for a nozzle with 1 mm diameter. Boiling curves were obtained.
