Summary

Variable speed drive centrifugal chiller has excellent part load performance compared to constant speed drive centrifugal chiller. It needs a good performance predicting model for evaluating the all year round benefit. This study is to evaluate the temperature-dependent thermodynamic chiller model of ASHRAE Guideline 14 for 600 RT CSD and 535 RT VSD centrifugal chillers individually. All the experiments are conducted at steady state conditions in laboratory to decrease the uncertainty of measurements. The error analysis showed the original model was 8.2% (CVRMSE) for CSD chiller and 11.9% for VSD chiller. This study has modified the original model, replaced the return condenser water temperature by leaving temperature, and improved the prediction accuracy. The error was decreased to 2.7% for CSD and 6.7% for VSD chiller. The accuracy is acceptable for centrifugal chiller performance evaluation.
