Temperature effects on imbibition and germination of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seeds.

Author(s) : JENNINGS P., SALTVEIT M. E.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The study was undertaken to examine temperature effects on imbibition, germination, and chilling sensitivity of the seeds of two Cucumis sativus cultivars that previously differed significantly in the chilling tolerance of their fruit. The authors suggest that some factor that confers chilling tolerance is gradually lost during the early stages of germination following imbibition.
