AN EXPERIMENT HAS BEEN ACHIEVED ON A HEAT PUMP WITH A STATIC EVAPORATOR, IN THE NORTH OF FRANCE. THE OBJECTIVES ARE: THE OBSERVATION OF FROST LAYER FORMATION ON THE EVAPORATOR ; THE INFLUENCE OF THIS PARAMETER ON THE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE ; A DEFROSTING METHODOLOGY. TO THIS PURPOSE, AN OPTICAL DETECTOR HAS BEEN MADE AND TESTED DURING THIS EXPERIMENT. THIS PAPER ALSO PRESENTS THE INSTALLATION WITH THE COMPUTERIZED MEASURING SYSTEM AND THE FIRST EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OBTAINED.
