Summary

IN ORDER TO EXAMINE COOLING TOWERS AS WELL AS TO TRANSFER ONE OPERATING POINT TO ANOTHER THROUGH CALCULATION AND TO COMPUTE FAMILIES OF CHARACTERISTICS, IT IS NECESSARY TO USE DIMENSIONLESS CHARACTERISTIC NUMBERS. COUPLING EFFECTS OCCUR AT EVAPORATION COOLING AS A RESULT OF THE CONTEMPORARY HEAT AND MASS TRANSITION AND THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OFTEN IDENTIFIED DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE EVAPORATION NUMBER CALCULATED BY THE LAWS OF SIMILARITY AND BY THE MERKEL NUMBER. THESE DIFFERENCES HAVE SHOWN THE WAY TO COMPENSATE THE EVAPORATION NUMBER IN REGARD TO THE COUPLING EFFECTS IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER. THE RESULT IS A CHARACTERISTIC NUMBER WHICH CORRESPONDS WELL TO THE LAWS OF SIMILARITY.
