TO ACHIEVE A TEMPERATURE CLOSE TO THE PRODUCE CHILLING INJURY TEMPERATURE, SHIPPING SPECIFICATIONS MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CONTAINERS. THE NECESSITY FOR THE DIFFERING SPECIFICATIONS IS SHOWN FOR THE TYPES OF CONTAINERS IN THE PACIFIC ISLANDS SERVICE. THE DEGREE OF TEMPERATURE CONTROL OF FOUR TYPES OF CONTAINER IS SHOWN, INCLUDING EVIDENCE OF A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE OF TEMPERATURE SET POINT WITH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE CHANGES.
