The development and application of phase change composite based on nanoporous graphite.

Author(s) : ZHANG D., TIAN S., XIAO D.

Summary

Phase change composite was fabricated based on nano porous graphite and organic phase change materials, including fatty acids and their derivatives and molecular alloys. Firstly, by means of electrochemical method, organic functional groups were imported onto the inner surface of porous graphite, which are helpful for the porous graphite to absorb large quantity of organic phase change materials and keep them in its porous space stably. Then, the thermal properties of the phase change composite, including the phase change temperature, latent heat and thermal conductivity were studied by means of DSC test. Additionally, the thermal cycling stability of the composite was observed by means of an accelerating cycling facility and DSC test. After the processing and characterization of the phase change composite, it was encapsulated in aluminum containers, which were inserted into the air conditioning system of the green building in Shanghai as a tool of thermal storage for the purpose of shifting electrical load of the air conditioning system from peak period to off peakperiod.
