Summary

The author describes two expert systems developed for refrigeration plant. One is a fault diagnosis system which can be customised to a particular plant to enable non-expert plant operators to diagnose faults and maintain plant efficiency by a simple input of measured information on a computer keyboard. The software for this includes a data base incorporating the characteristics of all plant items and the necessary calculation ability to identify plant performance and compare it with the ideal. The second system is for use by plant designers and allows plant components to be selected for a load profile and optimised for any event anticipated. D.W.H.
