The effect of additives in the absorptive and regenerative processes of lithium bromide-water refrigeration cycles.

Author(s) : KASHIWAGI T., YOON J. I.

Summary

The study investigates the effect of additives such as n-octanol into lithium bromide-water solutions in the absorber and generator of absorption refrigerating machines. The experimental results confirmed the positive effect of additive use in the absorber. Little is known, however, on the effect of additives on regenerator performance. In the study, the authors carried out experiments to investigate possible positive or negative effects of additive use on the generator behaviour. The results showed the regenerator heat transfer to improve with higher pressure and with lower concentrations; the boiling heat transfer coefficient was shown to be more strongly influenced by concentration than by pressure.
