The effect of compressor on-off cycles on refrigerating machine performance.

Influence des cycles marche-arrêt du compresseur sur les performances d'une machine frigorifique.

Summary

The efficiency of a refrigerating machine is characterized by both start-up and shutdown transient conditions. A series of tests was done to quantify the performance degradation of a refrigerating machine operating between -18 to 5 deg C as the evaporating temperature. The tests include cycling rates from 3 to 10 cycles per hour. The paper describes the variations in temperature and pressure during each phase of an on-off cycle. Results show a degradation factor from as low as 1 to as high as 1.6.
