Summary

The purpose of this paper was to propose an optimal operational planning method for an air-conditioning system with an ice storage unit, and to analyse the effect through a numerical study for an office building. The results are summarized as follows: 1) with an ice storage system allowing use of cheap electric power during the night, energy charges are reduced by about 40%; 2) reduced ventilation energy due to lower air temperature overcomes the higher cost of low-temperature chilled water.
