Summary

Large-scale preparation of La0.7Ce0.3Fe11.28Mn0.22Si1.5 compounds was investigated by melt-spinning technique. The microstructure of as-cast ribbon affects the 1:13 phase formation greatly in the annealing process: finer grains of as-cast ribbon accelerate 1:13 formation but lead to the growth of a-Fe grains in the annealing process. Homogeneous and stable La0.7Ce0.3Fe11.28Mn0.22Si1.5Hz is obtained after annealing ribbons under atmosphere of 0.2 MPa at 623 K for a week. After being kept for one year, there is almost no change in the Tc of the hydrides. Short preparation time, homogeneous and stable Tc, and large MCE suggest that large-scale (La1-xCex)(Fe1-yMny)11.5Si1.5Hz hydrides are promising candidates of magnetocaloric materials for practical magnetic refrigeration near room temperature.
