Summary

A MODEL, BASED ON A UNIT CELL, AND TAKING BOTH CONDUCTIVE AND RADIATIVE HEAT TRANSFER INTO ACCOUNT, WAS DEVELOPED TO PREDICT THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF FIBROUS INSULATION. FIBROUS ALUMINA-SILICA THERMAL INSULATIONS WITH PACKED DENSITIES OF 50-183 KG/M3 WERE MEASURED AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AND AIR PRESSURESOF 100,000 PASCALS BY A STEADY-STATE METHOD. THE RESULTS WERE CORRELATED SATISFACTORILY BY THE MODEL.
