Summary

FIBROUS INSULATING MATERIALS PACKED BETWEEN THE BUILDING WALLS HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO VARIOUS SURROUNDING CONDITIONS IN THE ACTUAL OPERATION. THE EVALUATION OF INSULATING PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN PERFORMED ONLY BY THE SURROUNDING TEMPERATURE CONDITION. THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WOULD CAUSE TO OVERESTIMATE THE INSULATING PERFORMANCE DUE TO THE OCCURRENCE OF NATURAL CONVECTION AND THE MIXTURE OF MOIST AIR IN THE FIBROUS INSULATING MATERIALS. THE PAPER CLARIFIED EXPERIMENTALLY THE CONDUCTIVITY OF FIBROUS MATERIALS EXPOSED TO VARIOUS SURROUNDING CONDITIONS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE EFFECTIVE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY PUT INTO PRACTICAL USE WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR MANY PRACTICAL DESIGNS WHEN THE NATURAL CONVECTION DEPENDING ON VARIOUS SURROUNDING CONDITIONS OCCURRED IN THE FIBROUS INSULATING MATERIALS.
