Summary

The effectiveness of a refrigerating system using CO2 as the working fluid is discussed from the viewpoint of cycle theory, also taking into account the characteristics of the actual components. It is clear that the CO2 refrigerator using the transcritical region at the high-pressure side of the cycle has an advantage when it is applied for simultaneous heating and cooling demand in the temperature range from -30 to 5 °C for cooling and 25 to 80 °C for heating. A case study is then presented.
