The report is part of the GLOBEFISH Research Programme, an activity initiated by FAO's Fishery Industries Division. Part 1 reviews the structure and activities of the fishery industry in the former USSR; catch statistics are given for 1980-90 by major fish species, fishing grounds and Republics. Part 2 looks at the present and future of the fishery industry of the Russian Federation, and discusses privatization and investment potential.
