Summary

This article presents investment trends in the food industry in France from 1990 to 1996; investment dropped 11% between 1990 and 1994, with the most marked drop occurring in 1993 (9%). Since 1994, a 5% increase has occurred in terms of investment in technical plant and tools. This trend continued in 1997 during which a 1.3% increase was observed, and should continue in 1998, with a forecasted 2.5% increase in total investments in the food industry. Profits totalized FRF 400 to 500 million (according to the categories analyzed) in 1998, in comparison to a total loss of FRF 70 million recorded in 1990; exports represent FRF 2000 million.
