THE PAPER DESCRIBES A SPECIAL DEVICE WHICH IS ESSENTIALLY A PIVOTED COLUMN, CARRYING AN ARTICULATED ARM, AT THE END OF WHICH TONGS ARE LOCATED ; THE WHOLE SET IS DRIVEN HYDRAULICALLY. THE TONGS ARE HANDLED, WITHOUT EFFORT, BY MEANS OF A GUIDE BAR CARRYING THE CONTROL DEVICES. THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF ARMS: EITHER MANUAL, SEMI-AUTOMATIC OR AUTOMATIC. WITH SUCH A DEVICE TWO UNSKILLED OPERATORS LOAD OR UNLOAD A TRUCK, WITHIN AN HOUR, WITHOUT EITHER EFFORT OR HAZARD. G.G.
