Summary

The article is a case study of an experience of bad design and implementation of a skating rink in Italy. Various factors were disregarded: the fact that the rink was not covered with a roof or a canopy, maximum temperature, operating periods, freezing time, availability of water for the condenser. Main failures in the refrigerating system itself: inadequate diameter and wall thickness of rink tubes; tubes inserted in the concrete plate; refrigerating system composed of nine units designed for air conditioning; irrelevant cooling medium circuit; no clear responsability of the various participants in the design and implementation.
