Summary

THE AUTHORS DEVELOPED A NUMERICAL MODEL OF A BUILDING ENVELOPE IN UNSTEADY STATE CONDITIONS, BASED ON THE FINITE ELEMENTS TECHNIQUE ; THE EXTERIOR WALL IS CONSIDERED A BIDIMENSIONAL SYSTEM, WHILE THE INTERIOR STRUCTURES ARE CONSIDERED MONODIMENSIONAL SYSTEMS. THIS MODEL TAKES INTO ACCOUNT THE THERMAL LINK BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT STRUCTURES OF THE ENVELOPE, DUE TO CONVECTIVE AND RADIATIVE HEAT EXCHANGES. UNSTEADY STATE CALCULATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT FOR DIFFERENT CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND DIFFERENT OPERATION MODES OF THE HEATING SYSTEM. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE MOST SEVERE CLIMATIC CONDITIONS FOR SURFACE CONDENSATION DO NOT ALWAYS OCCUR IN WINTER ; IN THE INTERMEDIATE SEASONS A HIGHER HUMIDITY RATIO CAN OVERRIDE A HIGHER SURFACE TEMPERATURE. IN SUCH AN EVENTUALITY, AND INTHE ABSENCE OF HEATING, IF THE SPECIFIC HEAT OF THE THERMAL BRIDGE IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE EXTERIOR WALL, SUFACTRR E. F.
