THE PAPER IS A CONTINUATION OF SYSTEMATIC INVESTIGATIONS IN THE FIELD OF CONDENSATIONHEAT TRANSFER. IT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF EXPERIMENTS ON CONDENSATION OF PRACTICALLY QUIESCENT VAPOUR ON THE BANKS OF HORIZONTAL SMOOTH TUBES OF DIFFERENT DIAMETERS. THE MECHANISM OF HEAT TRANSFER IN CONDENSATION OF VAPOUR UNDER THESE CONDITIONS HAS BEEN REVEALED.
