Summary

THE DYNAMICS OF DMSO ACCUMULATION IN RENAL TISSUE PERFUSED WITH 15% DMSO AT DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES, 291 OR 281 K (18 OR 8 DEG C), AS WELL AS THE PARAMETERS OF CELL METABOLISM (THE CONTENTS OF POTASSIUM AND SODIUM IN TISSUE, THE EXTENT OF OEDEMA, RELEASE OF PROTEIN AND LDH INTO THE PERFUSATE) AFTER CRYOPRESERVATION TO 223 K (-50 DEG C), WERE STUDIED IN 26 WHITE RATS. THE ACCUMULATION OF DMSO WAS ESTIMATED BY ITS UPTAKE FROM PERFUSATE. THE RATE OF DMSO ACCUMULATION APPEARED TO DEPEND BOTH ON THE PERFUSION TEMPERATURE AND FLOW RATE OF THE PERFUSATE.
