Summary

The article presents the experiences of a West African refrigerating and air-conditioning company. The author first discusses the company's initial activities in maintaining refrigerating plants on board tuna trawlers, generally using ammonia. He then explains that, since the market has become too crowded, the company has had to develop its air-conditioning installation and maintenance activities. The author then tells of the difficulties in hiring and training qualified workers and stresses the importance for all levels of African engineers to acquire experience in developed countries. Finally, he tells about the financial reasons that led the company to change its structure.
