Summary

The Japanese industry experienced a sharp downturn in the year from October 1992 to September 1993, with output falling by 13.5%. Nevertheless, the dollar value of production rose slightly, thanks to the rise in the value of the yen. Room air-conditioners fell from a peak of 8.7 million units to 6.3 million, and packaged units, from 1.83 million to 1.25 million. Figures are given for 24 products. A.R.T.
