The "fish cold chain": basic ecological evaluations.

Author(s) : MEURER C., SCHWARZ W.

Summary

This work attempted to make some basic ecological evaluations for various application fields of refrigeration technology within the fish cold chain ("catch to end user"). In a first step, the state of the art technologies for the different market segments are described. Their market penetration and the rational for applying that specific technology are described. When alternative technologies are competing against each other, these technologies are described and compared with each other. In all segments, some basic environmental data for energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (including emissions from potentially climate active refrigerants) are quoted. In addition, the environmental performances of the different segments are compared in a dominance analysis.
