The reduction of energy consumption due to fans in refrigerated areas.
Author(s) : EDWARDS B. J., FLEMING A. K.
Type of article: Article, IJR article
Summary
The electricity consumption by fans in refrigerated areas can contribute significantly to the refrigeration load. In addition to the cost of electricity consumed by the fans, there is the cost of additional refrigeration capacity and consequent electricity consumption necessary to remove the fan heat from the refrigerated environment. Some meat freezers with seasonal variations in production and no provision for the reduction of fan load at low throughputs have annual fan heat loads well in excess of the product refrigeration loads. Alternative designs are discussed which could more than halve the annual fan energy consumption of meat freezers used in New zaeland.
