Summary
The use of Building Energy Management and Control Systems to optimize the operation of buildings and active systems installed may improve the performance and the rationalization of energy consumption in the building. However, when these systems do not operate correctly, it is necessary to identify the main causes of malfunction and the reason why they occur. Commissioning and retrocommissioning help to ensure that building equipment and systems are integrated so that they perform together effectively and efficiently, and meet the building manager´s current operating requirements and expectations. This paper will address these issues, and will attempt to create a methodological approach that can assist the building manager in understanding the link between building automation systems and the possible inefficiencies in energy usage in buildings. The work will be mainly focused on the retrofitting of Building Energy Management and Control Systems, as well as optimizing control strategies in existing commercial or institutional buildings.
