Summary

THE PATHOGENESIS OF SUPERFICIAL SCALD OF THE APPLES CAN BE DES CRIBED AS AN OXIDATION PROCESS OF A CUTICULAR TERPENOID WITH CONSEQUENT PRODUCTION OF HYDROPEROXIDES TOXIC FOR THE EPIDERMIC CELLS OF THE FRUIT. THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO POINT OUT THE ROLE OF OXYGEN CONCENTRATION IN THE PRODUCTION OF THESE TOXIC PEROXIDES, AND CONSEQUENTLY OF SUPERFICIAL SCALD. THE RESULTS OBTAINED SHOW AN EFFECTIVE ACTION OF LOW OXYGEN CONCENTRATION.
