The role of micro-region phenomena on nucleate heat transfer.

Author(s) : HAMMER J., STEPHAN P.

Summary

A micro-region model for nucleate boiling heat transfer is described. Heat transfer and fluid flow around single bubbles are investigated taking into account the influence of meniscus curvature, adhesion forces and the thermodynamic equilibrium at the gas-liquid interface. The model requires departure diameters and bubble site densities. From the results bubble growth rates can be derived. Mean heat transfer coefficients predicted by the model for boiling n-butane and ethane on a copper heater are compared with experimental data. The agreement is within the experimental accuracy.
