Summary

With the worldwide LNG demand increasing rapidly, LNG liquefaction plants and liquefaction processes are a highly valued industry. The state of the art of LNG liquefaction plants and liquefaction processes is introduced in this paper. The LNG liquefaction plant consists of the preprocessing process, the fractionation process, the liquefaction process, and the storage and loading process. The liquefaction process is the main process in the plant. The maximum train size of the liquefaction processes has increased continuously, and the recent maximum train size of the liquefaction processes is 7.8 mtpa using AP-X(TM) process. The liquefaction process most widely used in the world is C3MR, which has been modified to DMR, PMR, and AP-X(TM) to increase its liquefaction capacity and/or efficiency. This shall be one of the best methods to develop new liquefaction process in domestic areas to improve the maximum capacity and the efficiency based on the basic process such as C3MR, Cascade, SMR, and Liquefin(TM).
