The successful use of ammonia systems in industrial applications.

Number: pap. ID24

Author(s) : VESTERGAARD N. P., FUNDER-KRISTENSEN T.

Summary

This paper describes how the need for ammonia refrigeration plants will be growing due to an expanding cold chain and the need for environmental benign refrigerants. The usage of ammonia is not trivial and high attention must be given to ensure energy efficient and safe solutions. Technology development has been considerable during the last decade and will be described as well as the precautions to be considered when installing and running an ammonia plant. A suggestion for a methodology for ensuring the best solutions will be given. The method contains an overview on parameters and standards for the system but also considers safe design solutions, as well as effect of external surrounding factors as location and population density. The method is backed up by examples of implementation of these solutions.
