The value of valves.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The article describes the operation and settings of relief valves for refrigerant systems. Emphasis is placed on setting a valve to relieve at the highest safe pressure, normally the maximum working pressure of the vessel protected. Setting at lower pressures risks chance leakage in high ambient conditions. Examples are given. The three-way valve used for dual relief valve mounting is also described. On no occasions should dual valves be considered as together suitable for relief demands and only one should be opened to the system at a time. D.W.H.
