Summary
This problem was investigated for a pure substance by means of quasi-steady, instantaneous-similarity, as well as with finite-difference methods. The liquid velocity field, the solid and liquid temperature distributions, the solid-liquid interface location, and its growth rate, were obtained using all three methods. Comparisons of the solutions are made.
