THEORETICAL ANALYSIS OF BATCH EXPANSION PROCESS.

Summary

THE POSSIBILITY WAS STUDIED OF REPLACING ISENTHALPIC EXPANSION BY A BATCH EXPANSION PROCESS CONSISTING OF THE PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE DECREASE IN A RESERVOIR CONTAINING A TWO-PHASE FLUID AT THE SATURATION STATE BY REMOVING VAPOUR WITH AN AUXILIARY COMPRESSOR. ENERGY SAVING WAS COMPUTED. POSSIBLE MULTISTAGE EXPANSION WAS STUDIED IN ORDER TO REDUCE EXERGY LOSS DUE TO IRREVERSIBILITIES. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THIS METHOD SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVES THE EFFICIENCY OF A REFRIGERATING CYCLE, MAINLY WHEN THERE IS A WIDE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE EXTREME TEMPERATURES OF THE CYCLE.
