Summary

THE MEASURING SECTION CONSISTS OF A CIRCULAR TUBE, BEING PASSED THROUGH BY A NEWTONIAN FLUID IN LAMINAR FLOW. A SHORT TUBE LENGTH IS HEATED OR COOLED UNIFORMLY ALONG THE CIRCUMFERENCE. THE UPSTREAM AXIAL TEMPERATURE PROFILE IN THE WALL, INFLUENCED BY THE MASS FLOW RATE, IS USED TO DETERMINE THE FLOW RATE. THE ENERGY EQUATIONS FOR STATIONARY ONE-DIMENSIONAL HEAT CONDUCTION IN THE TUBE WALL AND FOR LAMINAR FLUID FLOW INSIDE THE TUBE ARE SOLVED UNDER REALISTIC ASSUMPTIONS. THEY SATISFY THE BOUNDARY CONDITIONS OF LOCAL HEATING OF THE OUTSIDE TUBE SURFACE AND HEAT TRANSFER ONLY TO THE FLUID INSIDE THE TUBE.
